Yesterday

Went to hear David Sedaris in Buckhead last night, and ended up standing in line with Paolo for three hours afterwards to get books signed. We didn't move more than six feet in the first two hours, and so passed our time in the Young Adult/Summer Reading section picking up paperbacks, turning to page 71, and reading the first full sentence on the page. Which makes for some interesting narratives when you alternate between the drivel they write for 12 year olds struggling to come to grips with the trials and tribulations of adolescence ("oh no! my best friend is dying! ...and Mom won't buy me that new Backstreet album!") and, say, Pride and Prejudice.

When, after our long wait, we reached Sedaris' table, Paolo informed him that he, Paolo, was from the Phillipines, whereas I hail from the far reaches of Mary-land. In return, Paolo got his book handed back to him signed "To Paolo: Thank you for making me rich. -D.S."
